More on The All Pervading Life in Space Theme

I used to think of space as empty, nothing, that which separates us from everything. Yet I used to find a powerful, peaceful feeling when I looked at the space between the trees in a forest or the space between people as they sit in a group, or the space between me and the wall. There is also the conscious space that persists between thoughts or feelings or the spaces between breaths. Space is indeed powerful. Space is that which connects everything, intimately, consciously in a kind of love soup that we have the blissful joy of orbiting. The same space that I see in front of me is the same space that surrounds the farthest star. Space is immortal and all pervading. Everything else, from stars to thoughts to us comes and goes, hanging out in space for a time. Study space. See if you can experience the metaphor of space. Try assuming that space is conscious, intelligent and loving, constantly supporting us. Or perhaps our point of The consciousness is like a holographic camera that projects the conscious world into the space all around us.

Sufi Shesshin

The Sufi Sesshin at this spring camp will also include a sobhet or sharing element. The sesshin will take place on Friday, May 23. We will form small groups that will stay together throughout the meditations and spiritual sharing. In the larger group there will be a dance or practice. We will then silently join our small group for a meditation. Immediately after the meditation we will gently open to one another in our small group. A talking stick will be passed from person to person. The person with the stick may share or keep silent. The rest of the group participants will hold that person in their heart, listening to their words or silence. We will keep silence during any breaks and lunch until 5:00 PM.

Nature

“There is One Holy Book, the sacred manuscript of nature, the only scripture which can enlighten the reader.” -Hazrat Inayat Khan We never list nature as one of our teachers on our camp flyers yet the grounds where we hold our Spring and Fall camps have much to offer. Nature will hold a special place in this camp. There is a hiking trail through the woods, down to the lake. You are encouraged to do a meditative walk and read the manuscript.

Karma Yoga

Karma Yoga is a spiritual practice where we take the remembrance of the divine into the practical world of tasks and services. Over the years many of the camp regulars have refined this practice to an art. Just ask for some tips on how to get the most out of chopping onions or sweeping a floor. The devotion to making the camp work for your fellow campers will open your heart.

Zikr

Zikr means to remember. We often sing or perform zikr aloud in a circle in a kind of group chant.

Sobhet

Sobhet is spiritual sharing much like what might take place at a Quaker Meeting. A person shares when they feel an inner prompting to speak and falls back into silence when the inspiration subsides.
